Fishing for big brown trout in a fast mountain stream

I saved my best for last, closing my trout fishing season with a big brown trout, caught in a fast flowing stream. This is the biggest trout that I have caught this season and I was so stoked to catch it.

I have had a great trout season. The trout fishing started sloe in September but as the weather warmed up I started finding a few nice trout. October and November were great but by the time December arrived things get very hot very quick and I put my trout fishing on hold.

I started trout fishing again around late February, and March when the nights were getting longer and the water was getting cooler. I do not like to go trout fishing during summer as mortality rates are very high.

The trout die quickly once they’re removed from the water, and in extreme heat they are quite stressed before we even go fishing for them. I will not be targeting brown trout again this season.

There is one creek that I fish that contains only rainbow trout, I may get up there fishing a few times before the season closes if I am lucky but as far as the brown trout go, I will be leaving them alone to spawn. I am already looking forward to going trout fishing again when the season reopens on the first Saturday in September.
