Winter Camping on a Frozen River & Ice Fishing
Winter camping is a test of will power…
None the less we set off down a long frozen river. On this trip I am winter camping in Saskatchewan and I brought my tip up fishing rig, which I set up right away in hopes to catch a fish while I set up camp.
I used my Nero Ice Auger to drill the hole through the ice. From there I set up my DD tarp as my sleeping area and I had to use ice anchors to setup my tarp as my camp was on a frozen river. I used 2 mattresses to keep my sleeping bag off the ground to prevent heat loss during the night.
Once I got everything set up, I decided to do some jigging for a while. Then an older man that was fishing not to far away hollered at me to say he caught a fish!
It was quite a big northern pike. It was around 20 lbs… but for me fish weren’t on the menu…
Good thing I brought a steak and some potatoes. Nearing the end of the night I could hear the wolves howling from a distance, it was pitch dark by 6:30 pm. I then popped 2 hand warmers and went into the sleeping bag.
